CSIRO’s work in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has helped form the backbone of the Canberra community. Working from our laboratories on Black Mountain, in Yarralumla, Gungahlin, offices in the city and at the Australian National University, and various field stations across the region, our staff number in their tens of thousands over these years. In turn, they raised their families in the region, many of when share fond memories of visiting their parents at work, and many of whom went on to careers in science, and with multiple generations of families working for the organisation.
Our science has been the cause of victory and achievement and occasionally headache and heartache for those in power at Parliament House, while the research conducted here has seen the nation change, from agriculturally dependent to a main player on the world stage of industry and innovation.
